Aamna
turned hot property on television with the
serial Kahin To Hoga in which she
played Kashish. But after the serial ended,
she disappeared from the small screen only
to return on the big screen.
Her movie Aloo Chaat in which she
stars opposite Aftab Shivdasani is all set
to release. Her next film is Aftab’s home
production. Though the actress has maintained
a low profile and avoided giving interviews,
she has always been in the news for her
link- ups. As soon as the rumours of her
dating Rajeev Khandelwal stopped making
the rounds reports of her alleged affair
with Aftab started doing the rounds.
At the press conference of Aloo Chaat,
Tellychakkar had an in depth chat
with the beautiful Aamna.
You
had taken a three years break after Kahin
To Hoga. What were you doing all this
while?
I took a break from work as I was offered
a lot of TV serials but I did not want to
act on television anymore. I wanted to do
films. I was also hearing a lot of scripts
for films. But nothing excited me till I
heard the script of Aloo Chaat.
I am praying that this film does well.
I have worked very hard for this movie.
Did you always want to act in films?
Yes. I wanted to become a film actress
from the time I was a kid. In my childhood
days, I used to entertain the guests that
would visit my place by acting and by imitating
a Bollywood actress. But coming from a conservative
family, I thought that being a film actress
is a distant dream and I will never be allowed
to become an actress.
What is the role that you are playing
in your film Aloo Chaat?
I am playing a Muslim girl who falls in
love with a Punjabi boy. The name of my
character is also Aamna. My character is
that of a simple, straight- forward and
a fun loving girl. I totally relate to this
character and I am sure every girl can relate
to it.
Will you ever return to television?
What are the kinds of shows would you like
to do?
I never plan. I have no idea what I am
going to do after two days, so about me
returning to television is a far off decision.
At the moment I want to focus on films.
But television is definitely close to my
heart. Wherever I am today is only because
of television. The medium of television
has become big and people have started respecting
it as much as they respect cinema.
There is a certain amount of skin show
in Bollywood. Are you fine with it?
I have set certain limits for myself and
I will never cross those limits. I will
never wear something or do something that
makes me uncomfortable facing my family.
Your elder brothers were apprehensive
of your modelling and acting career, so
have they given you a go ahead for films?
Yes. In fact they are excited about my
films. I belong to a conservative family
and I am brought up in a much protected
environment, so obviously my family was
not fine with my modelling and acting career.
In fact it took me eight months just to
convince them. My first ad was for Medimix
soap. When my family saw that ad, they were
assured that there is nothing wrong with
this career. I always see to it that I don’t
let them down.
What kind of equation do you now share
with Rajeev Khandelwal?
He is a dear friend and he will always
stay so. We started our journey together
on television. Apart from Kahin…,
we had also done a couple of ads together.
Though I had faced the camera several times
for ad campaigns and music videos, he is
the one with whom I acted for the first
time. Both of us grew together as actors
and we have supported each other through
out. Since we share such a good equation
with each other, our chemistry even showed
on screen.
Are you seeing Aftab Shivdasani?
No. I am single. The profession in which
I am, link ups are inevitable. It is something
that I can’t help. If I am seeing someone,
I would never hide my relationship. I would
rather be proud of my relationship. The
day I am in love with someone, I will be
open about it.
But Rajeev has mentioned in an interview
that you shouldn’t be linked with him anymore
as you have someone in your life?
(Shockingly) He said that? No, I don’t
think he would ever say that.
You were rated among the 50 most beautiful
women in India by a magazine. Comment
I am thankful to all those who felt that
I should feature in that list. I feel that
beauty lies within. I don’t believe in the
external beauty. If you are a good person
at heart, it will always reflect on your
face.
What is the secret of your beauty?
(Pause). As I just said, internal beauty
matters more than external beauty. But I
would say that my mom is to be thanked as
I have inherited my beauty from her. She
is from Bahrain.
Are you in touch with Ekta Kapoor?
Yes but on and off.
Would you ever act in one of her movies?
If she approaches me for her film and if
I like the script, I will definitely work
with her once again.
