Private Poorbi goes public

One of the few actresses on TV to have attempted stand-up comedy, Poorbi Joshi has carved a niche on the small screen. With late theatre director Pravin Joshi and acclaimed actress Sarita as parents and Ketki Dave as sister it was no surprise that Poorbi followed them on stage.

Poorbi does not only spread laughter in reel life but also in real life. The happy- go- lucky Poorbi likes to disperse joy wherever she goes. She has no future plans and believes in taking life as it comes.

The mutli-talented Poorbi (she is a fine actresses, a good dancer and a great mimic) is currently seen hosting the newly launched comedy series called Kaante Ki Takkar on Sony.

Poorbi Joshi speaks straight from the heart in an exclusive interview with Tellychakkar.

Since you are a stand- up artist, didn’t you feel that you would be more comfortable participating rather than hosting Kaante Ki..?

Many people have asked me this but I am happier hosting this show. The best part about being a host is that nobody judges you. Here, I have to host in comic style. I was roped in as host because the show needed a host who can do comedy as well.

How does it feel sharing screen space with your old friend Urvashi Dholakia after your first serial Mehendi Tere Naam Ki?

It is fun to work with her again. We have a blast when we are together and we get extremely noisy. We keep talking about the past. We are happy to see each other’s success. Both of us have come a long way in our careers and we have progressed.

Will you not tend to be partial to her?

No. After wearing make – up and stepping on stage, I keep everything aside and just do my job. Of course, I have fun with others on the sets but when it comes to work, I am extremely professional. For example, I would never get emotional on stage if she gets eliminated.

What are your expectations from the contestants?

Kaante Ki Takkar has finalists from the first and second season of Comedy Circus, so the contestants are already elevated to a certain level. They have a status attached to them. I hope that the audiences appreciate them as much as they have been doing till now.

After your debut serial you have never done a fiction again on television. Why?

May be people don’t feel that I can play intense and serious roles. I am happy doing comedy because there are not many women on TV who are into stand- up comedy. I am a person who likes to be different. I never go with herds. I played an intense role in an Indo-Canadian film Good Friday. That is my only project where the audience saw my intense and serious side.

Aroona Irani usually repeats her old actresses. Why did she never cast you again?

She is a great teacher. I don’t need to ask her for a role. If she has a role that suits me, she will herself approach me.

You do the job of making others laugh but what keeps laughter intact in your life?

I am blessed to have an amazing family and fabulous friends. Mummy is still working yet she finds time for her family. It is easy to laugh when people around you keep you happy. They make sure that laughter never disappears from my life.

Do you watch your sister Ketki in Bigg Boss 2?

Yes and I am proud of the fact that she is very dignified on the show. No one has ever found her bitching about someone or getting into controversies on the show. She can’t do such things because that is not her personality. Even in her life outside Bigg Boss house, she is the same.

Lastly, you have been single since quite some time now. Any plans to mingle?

Such things can’t be planned. If I get the right person, then I would go ahead and have a relationship. I am a private person. My life has never been an open book. But he would be an honoured man and I won’t hide him either.
